Chaitra Srinivas, Pharmacist and Public Health
I am a Pharmacist from India, currently pursuing my Masters in Public Health Sciences – Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Pharmacy education taught me that medicines cure illnesses. However, I aspired to study Public Health Sciences because I believe that we would be working towards a nobler cause if we focus our energies and resources in preventing the illnesses from occurring in the first place. Although the world now possesses therapeutic formulae and all the other wherewithal to manage, cure or treat diseases, we are still victims of various global health problems. However, I like to believe that these problems aren’t too big to fix - if we just start trying to fix them.
My pursuit of opportunities to work with a diverse team which focuses on tackling global health issues using novel approaches, such as advocating eHealth, led me to be a part of the YLH organising committee of the Social Entrepreneurship Challenge on eHealth. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and I’d like to think of the world as a chain and ill health as its weakest link. Hence, I consider it to be a privilege to be a part of this team which has collective goals to have a positive impact on global health.
