A molecular biologist by training, Olaf Kelm holds an MBA and is certified in Management, Project Management and Accountancy. He spent 17 years working for international organizations in grant support, resource mobilization and project management functions. This included working at the European Commission as well as working as Head of Grants Office before taking his current position as head of the Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Group at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). His team is proactively involved in identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and funding opportunities matching IARC’s areas of work.
As part of his work, he built a large portfolio of training workshops ranging from grant writing, project pitching and grantmanship to project, task, and financial management. He equally taught on related subjects such as efficient communication, leadership and career planning. He participated in numerous summer schools, career days, roundtable discussions and formal training at the Agency as well as Universities and Research Centres in France, Norway, Russia and South Africa. All in all, he has taught in more than 70 training events with more than 1300 participants.
